Throughout May 2026, we worked with several community groups, as part of a special sun-themed project for the Our Future Starts Here programme.
Using the natural power of the sun, participants created large-scale “cyanotype” prints on fabric.
Cyanotype is an 180-year-old natural form of printing that pre-dates photography. The process uses sunlight to produce a silhouette in a deep blue image.
We used objects we found as well as greenery, participants and photographic acetates (sheets) to create artwork, while discussing the sun’s positive impact on our lives and what we can do to protect our planet.
We also held a number of drop in sessions for children to make badge from the material.
The project culminated in a window exhibition that featured at the front of People Make Grimsby from the end of May, until 4th June 2026.
This was a collaborative project, alongside The Culture House, as part of Our Future, funded by The National Lottery Fund, The Notional Lottery Good Causes, and with thanks also to A P Robinson & Co, Green Futures, Freshney Place Shopping Centre, St Andrew’s Hospice and Nick Mabbit.
