Meet Us At Alberts Commisioned Artwork by Local Graphic Designers

Date: 2024

Details:

Run throughout 2024, the “Meet Us at Albert’s” project was inspired by the founder of the printing works, Albert Gait, and the rich legacy of the print works industry in North East Lincolnshire. This research project, delved into working-class social history, allowing us to develop a community heritage project that has been well-received across the whole community.

Capturing the development of the print industry in Grimsby has provided opportunities to archive personal family heritage, while also inspiring future creatives through commissioned artwork inspired by the past.

It was a fascinating few months exploring the rich history of Grimsby’s printing industry. We met many Grimbarians who had interesting stories from their own time working in print.

We also collaborated with local talented designers, who have each been inspired by our printing heritage – each piece is available for sale through our space at People Make Grimsby.

As we come to the end of our project, we have been excited to share our findings, gathering more information and support for our ultimate ambition – to get Grimsby printing again. Everything featured in an exhibit at Grimsby Minster.

The project was funded by Create North East Lincolnshire, and supported by Arts Council England and National Lottery Heritage Fund UK.
