As part of the Humberlands Festival, People Make Grimsby hosted an experimental digital risograph session with Oswin Tickler, to explore Coding within Risograph design.
Oswin Tickler is a Senior Lecturer in Magazine and Book Design and Production, at London College of Communication (and would-be heir to Grimsby’s plum and apple jam empire!)
Oswin described the workshop as “an experimental workshop where you will learn the basics of drawing with creative code, combining these to create unique Risograph posters as part of Humberland’s festival.
The workshop consisted of running through creative coding exercises using p5.js to generate random shapes and patterns. We will then output a selection of these, combining them on the Risograph to create unexpected collaborative posters that mix print and digital, chaos and control.”
What is P5.js?
“p5.js is a friendly tool for learning to code and make art. It is a free and open-source Javascript library.”
Participants needed to bring their own laptop, but didn’t need specialist software or knowledge to join in with the workshop.
The aim of the workshop was for participants to take home new skills and a set of unique risograph posters.
These were then exhibited at People Make Grimsby throughout July 2026.
